Love Me in the Dark by Mia Asher

4.5 Stars

Deciding to read Love Me in the Dark by Mia Asher was a no-brainer. Arsen is on my must-read-ASAP list, and even though I haven’t gotten to it, I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews about it from my most trusted GoodReads friends.

Love Me in the Dark is emotional and completely immersive. I felt like I was in Paris with Valentina and Sebastien. I felt everything while reading this book.

I wish I were anywhere else but here, standing next to a man who makes me feel as though I’m drowning and flying at the same time. But even that lie sounds empty to my ears. Because if I’m honest with myself, there’s no place I’d rather be.

Then there was the Cover-Lust – I love beautiful covers, but I’m not usually a fan of covers with people on them…. especially the half-naked covers that romance novels usually sport. BUT there’s something about the man on this cover that makes me want to buy a copy of it just so I can stare at him…. and stare some more.

This was a great 1st time read for Mia Asher. I definitely see more of her work in my future.

Two strangers
in Paris …
One passionate,
earth-shattering kiss.
He was the
artist upstairs
with the
tantalizing smile and laughing eyes.
He was the
devil inviting me to sin,
seducing me to
dance in the bright moonlight.
He was desire
and need.
When he touched
me, my body sang–
my soul came
But I belonged
to another man,
and he didn’t
want to let me go.

I’m a writer, a hopeless romantic, a wanderer, a dreamer, a cynic, and a believer. And, I might be a bit crazy – but who isn’t?I believe in happy endings however I know that not everyone is lucky enough to get one, but such is life. I think fine lines exist to be pushed and possibly crossed.

The Spire by Kate Canterbary (The Walsh Series Book 6)

4.5 Stars

This book was a little hard to give a star rating today because I wasn’t quite sure where to put it. I thoroughly enjoyed it as a standalone (4 stars) but I’m pretty sure if I had already read the rest of this series that I would be putting an emphatic 5 Stars with all the exclamation points. So 4.5 it is.

This book is a standalone within a series. It is the type of romance where you can read about the main couple and completely enjoy the book, but there will be a few characters in the background that spark your interest and you will wonder what their story is. There are 5 books previous to this that I can’t wait to read. Now I just need to find the time to get to them.

I know there isn’t much information in the review that lets you know what the books was about. That was on purpose. The author specifically requested no spoilers, and I don’t know what in this story she would consider a spoiler. So vague it is. But I really did enjoy this story AND I will be looking for more books by Kate Canterbary.

I gave her a little shove, and she fell to the mattress. She aimed a meaningful glance at my jeans, and that was all the encouragement I needed to drop them to the ground. She crawled backward, and I followed, stalking her every movement until we were flat against a bank of pillows.

“Hi,” she said, running her hand up my flank and over my shoulder. She hooked her leg around my waist and pulled me flush against her. My cock was acutely aware that only my boxers and her panties separated us, and was alternately thrilled with that situation and impatient as hell. She smiled, a little shy. “I like the way you touch me.”

“That’s good because I really enjoy touching you,” I said, bringing my lips to her neck and trailing them down between her breasts. “I didn’t want to let you go when I met you last night. Wanted to keep you all to myself.”

“Oh,” she said, her eyebrow quirking as if this was an peculiar sentiment. “I don’t think anyone’s ever wanted to keep me before.”

Fuck, she was too much. Just too much. Beautiful and rough around every edge yet vulnerable and sensitive.

“I want to keep you,” I said, sliding my fingers behind her back to unclasp her bra. “I’ll keep you as long as you let me, lovely.” Her arms moved to her chest the minute her bra went flying over my shoulder. That vulnerability? There it was again. “And I want to see you, too.”

A groan was rumbling past my lips the second her arms went around my neck and she was bared to me. I thought her tits were a crime in that t-shirt, but I had no idea. They were full and pale, and delicious. I licked and sucked as if I was trying to consume her, and maybe I was.

“Say something,” she whispered, her fingers raking through my hair. “I want…I want to know what you’re thinking.”

I released her nipple with a satisfied groan, and then dropped kisses on each of her breasts before finding her eyes. “I’m thinking get me inside you right now.”

Our lips met as my fingers inched her panties over her hips. I could take her just like this, face-to-face while I tasted her hungry hums, and I’d want for nothing.

“You probably thought I’d be crazy in bed,” she said, her words muffled as she spoke against my neck. “Like, I don’t know, adventurous and kinky. Like, I keep nipple clamps in my back pocket and actually prefer wearing thongs, and I’m always down for anal. And it’s my fault, really. This whole night has been pretty wild, and I kissed you like a maniac and then everything on the boat, and it wouldn’t be wrong to think that tequila on my tits is an average Saturday morning but—”

“It only matters what you want,” I said, tipping up her chin. “Don’t worry about what I think, or what you think I’m thinking. Tell me what you want.”

Erin’s fingers clawed at my boxers, and together we got them over my hips and out of the way. Her panties were long gone and my cock was in love with the wet heat between her legs.

“Please don’t make it hurt,” she whispered.

I shook my head and dropped a kiss on her forehead. “Never.”

Kate Canterbary doesn’t have it all figured out, but this is what she knows for sure: spicy-ass salsa and tequila solve most problems, living on the ocean–Pacific or Atlantic–is the closest place to perfection, and writing smart, smutty stories is a better than any amount of chocolate. She started out reporting for an indie arts and entertainment newspaper back when people still read newspapers, and she has been writing and surreptitiously interviewing people–be careful sitting down next to her on an airplane–ever since. Kate lives on the water in New England with Mr. Canterbary and the Little Baby Canterbary, and when she isn’t writing sexy architects, she’s scheduling her days around the region’s best food trucks.

Meeting The Unpredictable is the 2nd book I’ve read from Riann C. Miller, and it won’t be the last. I’m really enjoying her writing style and can’t wait to read more. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what the secrets were in this book, but I was wrong every time. The plot twists definitely made me say “WOW”. You can read my original review here.

Beautiful Mine by J.L. White (Beautiful Rivers Series)

5 Stars

I’m going to come right out and say it. I wasn’t expecting to love this book. The blurb didn’t capture my interest, and if it hadn’t been J.L. White, I would have passed over it. J.L. White is a new discovery for me, and I’ve been slowly working my way through her Firework Girls books. I’ve enjoyed those books so much, and have been savoring them. They are a treat I get to read when I’ve read a couple of bad books and need some relief. Or when I’m ahead on my deadlines. But I know going in that I’m going to get a great, steamy romance. I shouldn’t have had any doubts about this one. I LOVED this book!

Whitney meets Connor while on a pilgrimage across Spain. Whitney’s journey isn’t about religion, it’s about soul searching. She has dedicated her life to her job at a charitable organization that helps child refugees, but her life is unbalanced and she needs to take a step back.

Connor suffers from Wanderlust and travels the world seeking people and experiences. He lives on his boat and sails wherever his heart desires. He changes locations on a whim, sometimes staying only a few days… other times a few months. When he meets Whitney on the Camino del Santiago the attraction is instant and intense. They begin a brief, passionate love affair that leaves a mark on both of their hearts. At the end, they say their goodbyes and go their separate ways.

Many months later, they run across each other at Connor’s family resort. It’s like they were never separated and instantly pick back up where they left off. But the underlying problems are still there. Connor desires to travel the world and be able to change locations at a moments notice and Whitney can’t imagine not having a home base.

And if he did decide to leave, who says he would want me along? Can you still be the wind when you’ve got someone tied to your side?

Because when I’m really honest with myself, I’m afraid he’s still the wind, and I’m over here completely delusional about my ability to capture him.

 I. Couldn’t. Stop. Reading. I started it this morning, intending to only read for half an hour or so…. then the book was over and I was in love. These are the type of characters I read for. These are the type of relationships I crave seeing on a page. The romance was steamy. The sex scenes didn’t feel repetitive, and I genuinely cared about what happened to everyone involved. I can’t wait for the next book.

Definitely an 18+ book.

Beautiful Mine is releasing August 30, 2016.
