Free Now! Flow by Kennedy Ryan (The Grip Prequel)

ALL OF THE STARS!!!

I have never connected so deeply with a couple in such a short time. This is how you write a prequel. I don’t think anyone could read this and not feel this story.

Flow is the prequel to Grip which is releasing March 2nd. This is a cliffhanger, but not too bad since we get the conclusion in less than a week.

Flow is free right now, and I’m not sure how long that is going to last. I do know that if you love it you can preorder Grip for $0.99 before it goes up in price on release day.

Don’t Speak by Katy Regnery (a modern fairytale #5)

4.5 Stars

3AM is when I finally went to bed last night. Lack of sleep is generally how I judge books and this one kept me up to a completely indecent hour. Don’t speak is the 5th book in Katy Regnery’s a modern fairytale series. This is one of those series where you absolutely don’t have to read the books in order. They are completely unrelated so you can jump in and out of the series wherever you wish. This is the only book I’ve read in this series but I’ll definitely be reading more of them. The 1st book, The Vixen and the Vet, is currently free on Amazon so I’ll probably be reading that one next.

About the book? It’s supposed to be a retelling of The Little Mermaid, but I haven’t seen the movie since early childhood and never read the book. While reading I didn’t know how close the story was to either of those versions other than them being from completely different worlds. I did a bit of “research” after reading it and can completely see the similarities… and now the title makes sense too.

This book took awhile for me to get into and that detracted a bit from my enjoyment. I didn’t realize it was a second chance romance, so the plot felt like it was progressing too quickly without allowing you to really fall in love with their story. I didn’t get invested until about 40% through, but once I got there I couldn’t put it down. From their first date, you know what the main problem in their relationship is going to be aside from their differing backgrounds. From that point on you are constantly waiting for it to blow up… and it does blow up… at the absolute worst time.

I loved how this book turned out and now I just feel all happy and sigh-y about it.

I forgot to add that 10% of the e-book sales for in March and April 2017 will be donated to charity. THAT made me happy.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katy Regnery started her writing career by enrolling in a short story class in January 2012. One year later, she signed her first contract and Katy’s first novel was published in September 2013.

Twenty-five books later, Katy claims authorship of the multi-titled, New York Times and USA Today Blueberry Lane Series, which follows the English, Winslow, Rousseau, Story, and Ambler families of Philadelphia; the six-book, bestselling ~a modern fairytale~ series; and several other standalone novels and novellas.

Katy’s first modern fairytale romance, The Vixen and the Vet, was nominated for a RITA® in 2015 and won the 2015 Kindle Book Award for romance. Katy’s boxed set, The English Brothers Boxed Set, Books #1–4, hit the USA Today bestseller list in 2015, and her Christmas story, Marrying Mr. English, appeared on the list a week later. In May 2016, Katy’s Blueberry Lane collection, The Winslow Brothers Boxed Set, Books #1-4, became a New York Times E-book bestseller.

In 2016, Katy signed a print-only agreement with Spencerhill Press. As a result, her Blueberry Lane paperback books will now be distributed to brick and mortar bookstores all over the United States.

Katy lives in the relative wilds of northern Fairfield County, Connecticut, where her writing room looks out at the woods, and her husband, two young children, two dogs, and one Blue Tonkinese kitten create just enough cheerful chaos to remind her that the very best love stories begin at home.

Worth The Wait by Claudia Connor (McKinney/Walker #1)

4.5 Stars

Worth The Wait was completely worth it. I’m a sucker for romances with “special agent” type characters and Nick Walker was just right. I didn’t realize that this series was a spinoff series (and it’s lucky I didn’t). I usually try to skip “companion” series unless I’ve read the original series and if I had I would have missed out on what is sure to be a great series.

This is a standalone and I have never before read a book by Claudia Connor, but I had absolutely no problem falling in love with these characters within the first 10 minutes of reading. I had the goofiest smile on my face while Nick and Mia were getting to know each other. The single dad/brother thing was just so sweet. While reading I often want to know more about some of the “supporting characters”, it was a nice surprise to find out that their stories have already been published and I will be able to read their books without waiting for them to be released.

Damaged Love by Riann C. Miller

4 Stars

Damaged Love by Riann C. Miller is a complicated second chance romance with a cast of characters made to love. I went into this book without knowing anything about it, but because I’ve read a couple of other books by Riann I felt comfortable going in without my usual research.

The 4 star rating is actually an average. The 1st part of this book was hard for me to connect to. I think the reason for this, is that the 1st half is told almost entirely from Jet’s POV. This is necessary given the nature of the plot, but  I would have given that half of the book a 3 star rating. The 2nd half was AH-MAZING. I absolutely loved the characters that were introduced in the 2nd half and having more of Rachel’s POV really helped to cement their story for me.

Damaged Love will be $0.99 for release week only.

True love never dies . . . but some lies are impossible to forget.

Jet

Nothing worth having in life is simple. No truer words have ever been spoken.

At the age of nineteen, I knew exactly what I wanted out of life, but everything changed after a chance encounter with a woman I couldn’t get out of my head, one that left me wanting more. What I felt for her was unforgettable; no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t purge her from my mind. She became my weakness . . . my everything. Little did I know our lives were on a predetermined course, leading us toward certain destruction.

They say love can be blinding, and I unknowingly walked straight into the blazing light.

Rachel

Jet was never meant to be mine, but for a short period of time, he helped me forget the anguish that had always been my constant companion. I allowed myself to feel happiness, to get comfortable, to be free of the nightmare that was my reality. But, when you’re harboring a secret, it’s only a matter a time before the truth is unveiled.

Eternal Heat by J.L. White (Firework Girls #3)

4.5 Stars!

Confession Time! I’ve had this book in my possession for a couple of months now and have been hoarding it for a pick-me-up. That time is now. 3 of the last 4 books I read have been “meh” at best and I needed something that I KNEW would be good. Once again, J.L. White did not let me down.

As far as “The Firework Girls” go, Ashley was the story I was least looking forward to. Her appearances throughout the series haven’t really piqued my interest other than her insane musical talent. I was in for a good surprise when I got to her story and realized there was a lot of depth and heartache within her. Her characterization within the books made sense and I came away feeling like I finally knew her. My favorite of this series is still Midnight Heat. You can read my review here. This is a series of standalones so you can read them out of order, but each girl does make an appearance in each book so there might be very minor spoilers. The last book in The Firework Girls series is Nuclear Heat and it is the one I have been waiting for. I’m expecting it to be the best of the series and hope it doesn’t disappoint.

THE BLURB

Sometimes the simplest choice has the power to change your life.

Chase

Ten years ago, I turned a hard decision into a simple one. I allowed others to decide my future . . . then I lost the best thing that ever happened to me. I let go of the girl I loved in exchange for a life I was told I wanted.

Then one day I woke up with no recollection of my reality and instead I believed my life had turned out how I had once dared to imagine. Now everyone is waiting for me to remember the day I ruined my future as I struggle to recall a life without the person I so carelessly tossed away.

Somehow, I was gifted a second chance with the woman I love, and I’m going to fight like hell to keep her.

Jordan

Your brain has a funny way of convincing you what is real and what is not; even if your heart never lets you forget the truth. After Chase Adams broke my heart, my life moved forward, even though the light I once felt had extinguished. Then I received an unexpected phone call that changed everything.

Every day we make choices, but most of the time they don’t affect the rest of our lives. I wanted to love again. I wanted to trust the gift I was given, but every choice has consequences. Now I have to decide to let go of the past for the sake of my future. . . or risk living with regret.

Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

My Lucky Days by S.D. Hendrickson Release Blitz

5 Stars!

My 1st book by S.D. Hendrickson was The Mason List. I read it in my pre-blogging days, but it is still one of my most recommended books. It is part of the reason I started blogging, because after reading it… I NEEDED to talk to people about it. I saw My Lucky Days, and had to have it. After reading this, I’m pretty sure S.D. Hendrickson is an auto-buy author for me. Luckily I’ve only missed one of her books, so I don’t have much to catch up on, but the 2 books that I’ve read are absolutely incredible.

I grew up listening to country music, but left it far behind in my teenage years. This book made me want to revisit the old country stations and reminisce. Each chapter is named after a country song (mostly well known classics). The prologue is named after my mom’s favorite song (and current ringtone) Hello Darlin’ by Conway Twitty. I knew immediately that this was going to be an interesting experience. I loved trying to figure out how each song (of the ones I knew) was going to relate to the chapter.

I will admit that this book didn’t resonate as deeply as The Mason List did. And that’s OK. I think books that make you feel that way are rare and I what I did get from this book was still amazing. It was still a 5 star read, and I felt the ending was even better. My Lucky Days was a unique reading experience. I fell in love with Lucky and couldn’t have asked for a better ending.

THE BLURB

He was an up-and-coming country singer.
She was the last girl you’d ever see in a bar.
But one night, under those neon lights,
Lucky and Katie found each other.

Beginnings are always exciting.
Always fun. Always hopeful.

Katie was in her last year of college.
Lucky was still playing local stages.
She fell for his voice. She fell for his words.
They fell in love.
It was beautiful.

But time changed their world.
She was alone. He was on the road.
Life happened.
And that love was torn apart.

Endings are always painful.
Always heart wrenching.
But not always final.

One day, Lucky came back to Katie.
And this is their story.

EXCERPT

I woke up sometime later to the sound of my phone buzzing next to me. Peering at the screen, I saw Lucky’s name. I answered with a grin. “Hey.”

“Hey.”

I imagined him sitting in his house in Nashville with his sexy smile and messy hair. And that image was better than all the other images I’d had today.

“Did I wake you up?”

“No, I’m watching TV. Well, I kind of fell asleep in here, I guess.” I glanced at the clock, and it said one-thirty in the morning.

“So you are sleeping on the couch instead of out with your roommates?”

“How do you know they aren’t home?”

I heard his chuckle. “Same reason I know you are wrapped in a brown blanket.”

I jumped up from the couch and spun around in a circle. And then I saw Lucky, looking into the house through the dining room window. The rush I felt was bigger than I expected. A high that drowned out all the other feelings. “How long have you been watching me?”

“Well, long enough to see that you probably snore because your mouth was wide open. And I think you drool too.”

“No . . .” I shut my eyes. “Get in here.”

I hung up and went to the door. He was already on the steps by the time I had it open.

“So I was in the neighborhood.” He grinned. “Thought I would stop by.”

The flutters in my chest held me captive. Lucky might be the star, but right now, I felt like all the lights in the world had shifted their focus onto me.

Before I could say a word, Lucky pulled me into his arms as he kissed me hard, grinding his mouth against mine. He was holding me, running his hands over my body, into my hair, against my cheek.

I knew in that moment, the inevitable lonely ache that was destined to follow our relationship would be worth the torment—if those days allowed me to experience this mind-consuming rush of happiness that came each time he returned home.
