Night Pleasures by Sherrilyn Kenyon

My 2nd book by Sherrilyn Kenyon, and I think it’s safe to say I’m a fan. The 2 books I’ve read are WORLDS apart (though both in the paranormal romance genre). I thought they were equally strong and will definitely continue reading both series.

This is another time I curse myself for taking such a long hiatus from reading. This book was published in 2002. I could have been enjoying books like this since high school (though I would DEFINITELY have been blushing from the sexiness at the time). Instead I feel like I’m trying to catch up on a lifetime of reading all at once…. but I digress. Back to the book.

Night Pleasures is the first book in the Dark Hunters series and it focuses on Amanda and Kyrian of Thrace AKA “Hunter”. Amanda is an accountant that shys away from the weird and wacky paranormal world that the rest of her family exuberantly embraces. Kyrian is a 2000 year old Dark Hunter that was a General in his human life. A betrayal by his wife led to his death and him becoming a Dark Hunter. He led a solitary life, without love, because loving someone makes them your weakness.

But then they meet and this happens.

Why haven’t you asked to go home?” Kyrian asked, his low tone cutting across the quiet stillness of the room.

She tensed at his question. “You want me to leave?”

He was silent so long she didn’t think he would answer. Finally he whispered, “No, I don’t.”

There was so much heartfelt emotion in those three words that she couldn’t have been more stunned had he declared his love.

Swoon. I love a love story. I love them even more if there is some mystical, magical, paranormal action going on. This book creates a  whole new world that is easy to believe in. It develops easily and has tons of potential. It made me a happy reader.
