Return to the Sky by J.W. Lynne (Above the Sky #2)

5 Stars!

Return to the Sky is the followup to Above the Sky and IT DOES NOT DISAPPOINT! I read Above the Sky in less than 24 hours and Return to the Sky received the same treatment. I once again couldn’t put it down and when I unexpectedly had to go on a 4 hour car ride mid-book, I was cursing the fact that there is no audio version yet. I would have purchased it in a heartbeat, because this is a series I am positive I will be re-reading.

This book had twists and turns that I never expected and its hard to talk about any of the book without spoiling something. Everything I was so sure of in the 1st book is turned on its head, and you learn that everything is not as it seems. When I finished this book I had that “soul-satisfied-perfect-book-bliss” going on and had a hard time wanting to start another book. This is a trilogy, so there is a third book…. I’m dying to read it but also want to put it off so I don’t have to see this series end.

If you love YA Dystopian Fiction then you NEED to start this series. You can read my original review for Above the Sky here.

Above the Sky by J.W. Lynne (Above the Sky #1)

 5 Stars!!!!!!

Unputdownable!!

I was supposed to be Adulting yesterday…

I still have so many things to do since we’ve moved here (namely upacking the 5 billion boxes still stacked in the garage). I started this book during what was supposed to be a short break and then had to tear myself away from the book an indeterminate amount of time later when I realized that I do, in fact, have kids… AND they require feedings. Above the Sky has an Ender’s Game mixed with Divergent feel to it and I couldn’t. stop. reading.

I hate trumpeting so loudly for a book in a trilogy that I haven’t finished yet, but I can’t believe that I had never heard of this book before now. My review schedule is running a bit behind right now because of the move but I may have to push a few things aside so that I can satisfy my need to finish this trilogy. It is THAT good.

Garden of Thorns by Amber Mitchell

4 Stars

I’m pretty sure the reason I wanted to read this book was because of the cover. I mean, LOOK AT IT!

I’ll be honest with you here. I haven’t read much of the mainstream YA Fantasy out there right now, so I can’t tell you if “it’s been done before”. What I can tell you is this book drew me in and kept me there. The slavery conditions Rose experiences are incomprehensible and create an instant “bad guy”. From the very beginning, there was always something happening, and I couldn’t put this book down.

I have two minor complaints. I usually enjoy “insta-love” (especially the fated kind) but this was a little fast, even for me. After I got over the initial “insta-love” shock I was completely on board with the romance. I also felt like Rose got too involved in the group too quickly. She went from being imprisoned, then training the next day, and being involved in her first mission the next. She jumped in with both feet, and they seemed to welcome her.

Amber Mitchell said she wrote this as a standalone with room for a sequel. She is completely right. I finished this book and was satisfied with where it ended, BUT I would 100% read a sequel. In fact, I’m hoping there is a sequel. Rose experienced so much growth in this book that I can’t wait to see how she handles what comes next.

THE BLURB

Before surviving the Scorpius bacterium, Tace Justice was a good ole Texas cowboy who served his country and loved his mama. After Scorpius, the world became dark, dangerous, and deadly… and so did he. The Vanguard medic is stronger, faster, and smarter than before, but he’s lost the line between right and wrong. His passion is absolute, and when he focuses it on one woman, there’s no turning back for either of them.

Sami Steel has been fighting to survive right alongside Tace, convincing the Vanguard soldiers she’s one of them. In truth, Sami is a former hacker turned government agent who worked at The Bunker, where scientists stored both contaminants and cures. Only she knows the location, and she’s not telling. Yet when sexual fire explodes between her and Tace, she’ll face even that hell again to save him.

Justice Ascending by Rebecca Zanetti (The Scorpius Syndrome #3)

4 Stars

Rebecca Zanetti is one of those authors I can’t get enough of. Sami and Tace are a couple that I have been rooting for from the first inklings of attraction and finally getting to read their story was something I’ve been looking forward to.

Unfortunately, I didn’t fall in love with Sami and Tace the way I have with all the other couples. I’m not sure what got in the way, but their relationship just felt like more of the same. That being said, “the same” was still pretty good and I couldn’t put it down.

There is a major plot development in this book and I still have no idea where it’s going. It looks like a new couple has been added and I have a feeling little Lena will end up playing a big part in the series towards the end… other than that I’m just along for the ride. I have faith that all the little strings will end up in one heck of a bow with the final book (whenever that may be…).

On a side note… it has taken me 3 BOOKS to realize that the last name of each of the Heros is in the title of the book they are featured in…. I feel like such a ditz sometimes.

Justice Ascending will be releasing January 31, 2017.

Shadow Fall by Audrey Grey RELEASE DAY!

This book has a definite Hunger Games vibe, and for me, that is a GOOD THING. Shadow Fall is one of the best YA books I have read this year and I am SO READY for the next book in this series. If you have read all the popular YA Dystopian novels, you may not enjoy it as much because I’ve heard it is largely a mix of elements from different Dystopian series. This wasn’t a problem for me because I am sadly way behind on my popular YA fiction. You can read my original review here. I was snooping around Audrey Grey’s social media and see that the next book is expected to be Shadow Rise. I am stalking Amazon for a pre-order on this because I need it.

Shadow Fall By Audrey Grey

5 STARS!!!!!!!!!

This is definitely YA Dystopian at its best. Shadow Fall by Audrey Grey is the 1st book in the Shadow Fall series. I finished this late last night, and I am so ready for the next book. It definitely reminds me of The Hunger Games, but completely different at the same time. There are some basic similarities, but this is its own story. I’ve heard comparisons to other YA Dystopian series, but I haven’t read them, so I can’t speak for that. I will say that Shadow Fall is one of the best books I’ve read this year.

There are many characters at play in Shadow Fall and I found they each had their own very unique voice. The beginning of a love triangle comes into play and while Caspian makes me feel more “comfortable”, Riser has a very compelling rawness to him. I know so many of you will hate this comparison, but in Twilight terms Caspian is Jacob and Riser is Edward. My two favorite characters are actually “supporting” characters. Teagan is completely awesome and I hope we see much more of this Subversive character in the following book(s). Then there’s Flame and much like her name, she is a definite fireball.

This is one of those books that I picked because of the cover and it turned out to be an amazing read. Shadow Fall isn’t even out yet, and I already can’t wait for its sequel Shadow Rise. Release day for Shadow Fall is November 22, 2016.
