Sassy Little Thing by Bella Jewel (Iron Fury MC #4) Review

Sassy Little Thing (Iron Fury MC Book 4) by [Jewel, Bella ]5 Stars

I’ve been in a bookish funk for almost 2 months and while I’ve been listening to audiobooks and making half-hearted attempts at picking up my kindle it wasn’t until recently that I started to see the sparkle of books again. And while this isn’t the book that brought me out of that funk, IT IS one of the little sparklers I’ve read since then.

Sassy Little Thing is the 4th book in the Iron Fury MC series by Bella Jewel. I’ve only read one other book by Bella Jewel, and it wasn’t one of the Iron Fury books, but it was enough to make me want to jump into this series right in the middle. This is a series of standalones, and they feel like standalones. I didn’t feel like I was missing out on something because I hadn’t read the other books. I DID want to go and read the other books in the series.

Saskia is everything the title promised and Mason is one incredibly ALPHA biker. The storyline was unbelievable but still enjoyable for those of us that don’t care about how likely something is to really happen. I definitely enjoyed my time with these characters and I think I’ll try to make time to read about the rest of the Iron Fury MC.

I received an advance reader copy of this book that I have chosen to review.

Murder Notes by Lisa Renee Jones (Lilah Love #1)

5 Stars

I started reading Lisa Renee Jones with her Dirty Money series. That series made me a fan, and I haven’t looked back since. I think Murder Notes might be one of my favorite books to date. It’s a definite departure from her usual genre, but the book still retains LRJ’s signature style.
Lilah Love is my new favorite heroine. Shes’s crass, damaged and just generally gives no f*cks. She feels real and raw in a way that isn’t common in a world of cookie cutter characters.

I LOVE Kane. Like love him, love him. Characters like him are the reason I read romance and I wish we saw more of him. He’s dark, dangerous, and powerful. I know this isn’t a romance, but the chemistry is real, so I’m hoping we see them get together more before the end of the series.

Then there is that cliffhanger alert.

I expect cliffhangers with LRJ. It’s part of her style and I accept them happily. That being said, this is the first book of hers that I would like to recommend to my mother… who does not read cliffhangers. I will be giving her a copy of the series… once it’s complete.

Title: Murder Notes
Author: Lisa Renee Jones
Series: Lilah Love #1
Release Date: March 27, 2018

New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones’s heart-pounding thriller of a woman’s secrets—and a past that’s about to come out of hiding…
As an FBI profiler, it’s Lilah Love’s job to think like a killer. And she is very good at her job. When a series of murders surface—the victims all stripped naked and shot in the head—Lilah’s instincts tell her it’s the work of an assassin, not a serial killer. But when the case takes her back to her hometown in the Hamptons and a mysterious but unmistakable connection to her own life, all her assumptions are shaken to the core.
Thrust into a troubled past she’s tried to shut the door on, Lilah’s back in the town where her father is mayor, her brother is police chief, and she has an intimate history with the local crime lord’s son, Kane Mendez. The two share a devastating secret, and only Kane understands Lilah’s own darkest impulses. As more corpses surface, so does a series of anonymous notes to Lilah, threatening to expose her. Is the killer someone in her own circle? And is she the next target?
I scan the ocean, expecting it to turn to blood, but it simply crashes to the shore.
I turn to the house and take a step, then stop abruptly, a shadow flickering by the house. A shiver runs down my spine. There it is again. Another shadow. Someone is there. It’s then that I flash back to being on this very sand, with Kane grabbing my arms and saying, “I’ll take care of it.” And I let him, and did so without asking questions, until it was too late to change the outcome. Because I was weak that night and he was strong. But I am not weak anymore.
I pull my weapon and start running for the house, wind in my hair and face, my heart thundering in my ears, and I don’t stop until I’m staring at the blood splattered all over the patio glass, some kind of note pinned in the center. Adrenaline surges through me, but I am in my Otherworld now. I retain my cool. I walk to the patio door, using the end of my shirt to open the door, and then I systematically search every inch of the house. When I know I’m alone, I walk to my bag, pull on gloves and then walk back outside, yanking the note off the door. Returning back inside, I lock the door and pull the blinds and then I open the note. At the top is the alphabet, pasted in paper letters, with an X across the letter A. The note reads:
A is for the Apple a day that keeps the doctor away. But a doctor couldn’t help him, could he?

I KNOW.

To celebrate the release of MURDER NOTES Lisa is giving away TWO Lilah Love Mugs PLUS a Kindle Fire Tablet!

Menace by Laramie Briscoe (Moonshine Task Force #5)

Menace (Moonshine Task Force Book 5) by [Briscoe, Laramie]4 Stars

These Moonshine Task Force books just keep on getting better and better. Mason and Caleb have been a dynamic duo throughout the series and I’ve loved watching how their relationship has grown and changed over the years. Mason has put his all into being the best single father to a teenage son that one could hope for. Their relationship is close and honest, but now that Caleb is ready to leave the house Mason is ready to jump into the dating scene.

Once they really started dating, I loved how seamlessly Karina melded into life with Mason and Caleb. She already cared about Caleb as a student, but once she started dating Mason she was easily accepted and then integrated into their life without annoying drama.

Menace is what I thought would be the last book in the series, so I was absolutely tickled when I found out that Caleb will be getting his own book, Cruise. I can’t wait for May to get here!

Mason “Menace”

“Single and ready to mingle……”

Those are the words above every picture of almost every female that strikes my
interest on this dating app my son talked me into getting. After being a single
dad for seventeen years, I’m ready to spread my wings, just not with most of
the co-eds who keep hitting on me and calling me daddy.

Now that Caleb’s in his Senior year of high school, I feel like I can let go of
the iron-clad control I’ve had on myself without his Mom in our lives. I’ve
enjoyed raising him, love the relationship we have, and while he went off the
rails for a bit last year, we’re closer than we’ve ever been. He’s got a full
ride to the University of Alabama, and I’ve settled into my spot with the
Moonshine Task Force.

But my son doesn’t warm my bed, he isn’t someone I can share my dreams with,
and he’s not the person I want to grow old with by my side. I’m not sure who
that is yet, but the smokin’ hot lady going by the name BeachBum83 definitely
has every single bit of my interest.

Karina Holland

“Looking for a good time, maybe more…..”

Those were the lamest words I ever typed in my life, but it was the best I had
for the dating app my friend, Violet talked me into joining. I didn’t have any
high hopes for myself. As a High School English teacher, I’m sick of pervy
Dad’s hitting on me when they come in to discuss their child’s lack of
motivation to read the classics and apply themselves.

Until the day Mason Harrison walks into my classroom. I had no idea Caleb’s Dad
was the man I met off that dating app who showed me how flexible I really am in
the back of his Jeep. Within minutes of the parent/teacher conference he proved
the sparks weren’t one-time only when we christened my desk.

Mason and Caleb? They touch a part of my heart that no one’s ever touched
before, and when a threat from the past shows up, I prove just how tough I
really am.

Hound by Marie James (Cerberus MC 2.0 Book #2)

Hound (Cerberus MC 2.0 Second Generation, #2)5 Stars

It’s been a good book week for me, with two of my favorite “auto-buy” authors releasing titles. We got a taste of Hound at the end of Lawson and that was just enough to drive you mad. After that first chapter I couldn’t wait to find out how this book would play out. One of the things I was most looking forward to was seeing how Kincaid would react to one of his girls finding love. His reaction was priceless.

This is an age-gap romance, but there isn’t much emphasis on that once things get heated up. Hound does have a secret that comes into play. There is tons of action in this one and I think it really added to the story. Gigi is such a brat that she’s hard to relate to at first, especially if you witnessed her antics in previous books. That being said, I warmed up to her fairly quickly even when she didn’t always make the best decisions. I know I haven’t said much about the plot, but SPOILERS!!! The next book was hinted at in the last chapter and I CAN’T WAIT!

Falling Under by Lisa Renee Jones (Walker Security #3)

Falling Under: a standalone Walker Security novel by [Jones, Lisa Renee]5 Stars
I love Lisa Renee Jones. I think I have to say that every time I review one of her books, but she just writes what I love. Strong females. Alpha males. Danger. Push & Pull romance. The list goes on and things get added every time I read one of her books. Falling Under is a standalone within her Walker Security series and definitely my favorite one. I will be the first to admit though, that I started falling for Jacob during Pulled Under and he just solidified his place as my favorite while I read this book.

Jewel is such a strong character and I loved how she started out as “Detective Carpenter” but as her relationship with Jacob progressed she became more than just her detective persona. They were vulnerable with each other in ways they wouldn’t even think of being with their co-workers and it helped them to solidify their bond even while still trying to figure out the dynamics of their relationship.  They’ve both faced serious tragedy and with that they understand each other better than anyone.

If you love romantic suspense with strong females and stubborn men then you need to add Lisa Renee Jones to your list of authors. She’s definitely a talent within the genre.

FALLING UNDER by Lisa Renee Jones

JANUARY 23, 2018

ABOUT

A new sexy standalone from Lisa Renee Jones…

Ex-special forces, Jacob King, is a man who keeps to himself, having learned the hard way that letting people close to you, trusting them, might just get you killed. A lesson he learned when members of his Special Ops team turned dirty, while others, men he considered friends, died. He made them pay. He made them hurt. He put them in jail. And so he doesn’t trust anyone anymore. He keeps his women hot and fast, his friends few to none, and his clients through the elite Walker Security at a professional distance, but safe.

It works for him. Until it doesn’t.

His newest job should be simple and cut and dry. Jewel Carpenter, the daughter of the CEO of Carpenter Enterprises, is receiving death threats. He’s to protect her and find out who is issuing the treats.

Simple. Cut and Dry.

Until it’s not.

Until the chemistry between he and Jewel is all about love, hate, and sex. But even as he fights the attraction to Jewel and discovers there is more to her than meets the eye, the real threat comes not from the threats she’s receiving, but the connection she has to him. Because his past has come full circle, and those men he’s made pay for their sins now want him to pay. And what better way than the woman in his bed?

EXCERPT

“Just to be clear,” he says, his voice low and rough. “I’m breaking every rule I own with you. I don’t fuck women I’m protecting.”

“You could hand me over to someone else,” I suggest, “and it won’t matter.”

“Not a chance in hell,” he says, his hand sliding under my hair to cup my neck. “We’ll break the rules together.”

“I’m not sure I like how you do ‘together’.”

“I’ll make sure you do,” he promises, his lips slanting over mine, and this time he kisses me like he owns me, like he wants to control me, and like I really am his, like I belong to him, and in this very moment, I can honestly say

I am. I want him, and I can’t get enough of him.

And how can it ever be enough when he’s this damn impossibly hot, and he’s such a damn good kisser. The way he makes me want his mouth on every part of me and the way he makes me want my mouth on every part of him. And so, there it is. I’m his, but I’m going to make damn sure he’s mine, too. I kiss him back as passionately as he’s kissing me. I meet him stroke for stroke, arching into him, telling him I am here and present, and I’m not even close to afraid of him or of this. He doesn’t get to control me. He isn’t making me do this. I control me, and I choose him and this.

Arching into him, his shoulder holster and mine are in the way, and I want them gone. I want him naked. Just to be certain that he knows that’s where I want this to go, my hand presses between us and I stroke the hard line of his shaft. He groans low in his throat, a sexy rough sound that tells me he gets the point. This isn’t his show. It’s ours. It’s us together, or there is no show, with or without our clothes on.

His reaction is to tear his mouth from mine, his lips lingering there though, as if he wants to kiss me again, and just when I would kiss him again, he leans away just enough to shrug out of his jacket. I take one step backward, and do the same with my blazer. I reach down and pull off my boots and he does the same. Next, we disconnect our shoulder holsters, and the truth is, it’s the first time I’ve ever been with a man who is probably more armed than me. That feels significant when it perhaps is not. He’s not a cop. He’s not that kind of career complication. He’s a Green-fucking-Beret, and one hell of a hot one, for that matter.

He sets his weapon on the couch and snags my hand, walking me toward him and taking my holster and weapon as he does. “Just making sure you don’t end up shooting me before this is over,” he says, setting it with his before shackling my hip.

“I told you I’ll wait until after the orgasms.”

“Careful,” he says, a hint of a smile on his lips again. “I might hold that orgasm and you captive.”

“You can try,” I say, but my head isn’t in the game in this moment, and somehow my hand is on his face, right by the almost smile, that seems to have complicated what should be sex, an escape, a way to pull back the emotions that umbrella stirred in me. That smile reminds me that Mr. Robot is his wall, his way to cope with death, with whatever makes him protect Jesse Marks.

He captures my hand. “What are you thinking?”

“That you have on too many clothes,” I say, before I let this go someplace emotional, somewhere that two people like us never want to go.

My hands press under his shirt, but he doesn’t immediately give me what I want. He studies me for several beats and then kisses me hard and fast. Too fast, but I get over it when he pulls his shirt off. He cups my face and kisses me, his hand sliding up my shirt, his touch fire that has me helping him pull my shirt over my head. Letting him drag me to him where he now sits on the couch. I straddle him, my bra somehow gone by the time I’m there. But my hands press to his shoulders, and I hold him at bay. “I will still arrest you if I need to,” I promise. “This doesn’t change that.”

“You aren’t going to arrest me any more than you hate me.” He glances down at my chest, his gaze a hot caress as it rakes over my breasts, my nipples, before his eyes meet mine. “Because you know I’m protecting you.”

I ignore the ache between my thighs. Or I try. “From what? The slayer or the Jesse Marks damage patrol?”

His hand slides between my shoulder blades and he molds my chest to his. “Do you really want to talk about Jesse Marks right now? Because if you ask me questions, I’m going to ask you questions when I’d much rather be inside you, giving you as many reasons as I can not to arrest me. But you pick. Conversation or fucking.”

“Both,” I say, because it’s the truth. I want answers and I want the conversation my emotions are having in my head to shut up. “Fucking first.” I push away from him and stand up, unbuttoning my pants, sliding them down my hips, and he watches me with that unreadable, robot expression that is admittedly sexy as hell. I press my lips to his and that’s all it takes.

We are crazy, hot, kissing, his hands on my breasts, my nipples, my neck. I can’t touch him enough. I can’t feel him enough, can’t get close enough, and that’s new to me. I don’t need anyone the way I feel I need this man. I don’t want to need anyone this much, but it’s too late. At least, right here, right now, I do. He rolls us to our sides, facing one another, the wide cushion of the couch more than holding us and the next kiss isn’t fast and frenzied. It’s long, drugging, and somewhere in the midst of his tongue stroking my tongue, I end up on my back with the heavy weight of him on top of me…

Cowboy Up by Harper Sloan (Coming Home #3)

Cowboy Up (The Coming Home Series Book 3) by [Sloan, Harper] 4 Stars

I’m so happy after reading this one. Cowboy Up redeemed this series for me after almost DNFing the last one. Clayton is the strong silent type and he’s the one I loved the most. He’s been a strong support for his siblings over the years. He’s an alpha with a bit of a darker side, but the way he takes care of Caroline is everything.

This book was a bit different from the other two because it had a bit of a mystery thrown in that really amped up the action. I think this added so much to the story that I hadn’t expected.

Then there was that epilogue…I LOVED it! Epilogues are very popular in this genre but it isn’t often that we get an epilogue from 15 years later. It made the Davis family story feel completely wrapped up in a way that was comforting.

Kiss Kiss Bang by Sidney Halston (Iron Clad Security #3)

Kiss Kiss Bang: An Iron Clad Security Novel (Iron-clad Security) by [Halston, Sidney]4 Stars

One thing I love is when a series of books is truly standalone and I can just jump in anywhere and not feel lost. Iron Clad Security is a great example of that, because I had never read a Sidney Halston book prior to Kiss Kiss Bang but I  was able to read this with no sense of loss. Even better is that I actually want to go back and read the other books that are earlier in the series.

The chemistry in this book was real and I LOVE good chemistry. Joey was such a great character and had pretty much every trait I love in a hero. My favorite moments were those where he was interacting with Livie’s daughter Sophie. His immediate love for her was swoonworthy. I had a harder time connecting with Livie. I’m not sure why but it wasn’t enough to detract from the book. I look forward to reading more from Sidney Halston.
