Ace by Laramie Briscoe (Moonshine Task Force #4)

Ace (Moonshine Task Force #4)4 Stars

Ace is the Moonshine Task Force book I was waiting for. His relationship with Violet has been teased, and I was so ready to see how he was going to rescue her from the situation she was in. She does get “rescued” from her situation, but other than Ace making sure Violet’s soon-to-be-ex-husband went to prison… she saved herself with some unneeded by appreciated help from Ace.

This romance has some slow burn to it. They wait for-ev-er to start a romantic relationship because Violet wants to officially be free from her ex before getting involved with Ace. It’s obvious they both want to be with each other, but Ace respects her need for closure and keeps things at her pace. I loved seeing how much he was willing to wait for her, but even I was tired of waiting when they finally got “together”.

I thought this was going to be the last Moonshine Task Force book I read. Ace was the book I was waiting for and I was content to end the series there. But then I read the sneak peak for Menace at the end of the book…. I will definitely need to read that one too.

I received an advance reader copy of this book that I have chosen to review.

Ace is
saving lives and mending hearts…….
Anthony “Ace” BaileyI’m not a rules kinda guy

Department Policy? Kinda sucks, but I do what I have to for the job that I
love.

Playing it safe? Not my thing.

Married? No big deal when I know she’s unhappy and scared.

I’m one of those guys – a sniper in the military, a little bit of an
adrenaline junkie, and a member of the Moonshine Task Force. I’ve lived through
some shit.

My gut has never failed me. It’s my sixth-sense. Warning me of a gunshot coming
my way, of a traffic stop being potentially deadly, or the tingling in the back
of my neck when I go to sleep telling me I’ll be woken up by a call in the
middle of the night. My gut has always kept me honest.

Like the day I walked into The Café and saw the new waitress. There was a ring
on her left hand, but I didn’t care. One look in her eyes told me everything I
needed to know. Her marriage wasn’t one made of love and respect. It was one
made of fear and doubt.

It’s why I ignored that ring, why I arrested her husband, and the reason I’m
willing to take my time. Patience is a virtue, and with this woman, I have it
in spades.
Violet Miller

Meeting Anthony Bailey changed my life. He did things that no one else has ever
done for me.

Feeling safe? Never happened before.

Feeling wanted? It’s been years.

Being independent? I’m learning.

It’s foreign, not having someone question my every move, being able to eat what
I want for dinner, and sitting out on my front porch talking to Anthony every
night while we share a couple beers.

I try to tell myself he’s just being nice; that he’s doing his job and working
within the community. The problem? The night he takes the kiss we both want,
everything changes, and I can no longer deny what I feel. But it doesn’t stop
me from trying – and I learn quickly that Ace knows me better than anyone else
ever has – including myself.

All I can do is hang on, as he takes me on the scariest journey of my life. The
one that bends us until we almost break, and ends with a happily ever after I
never thought I would get.
ACE includes the wedding of a beloved couple, an appearance by Reaper, and the
continuation of EVERYONE falling in love with Caleb!

How We Eat with Our Eyes and Think with Our Stomach by Melanie Mühl & Diana von Kopp

4 Stars

How We Eat with Our Eyes and Think with Our Stomach was a really interesting look into the psychology of why (& how much) we eat. This was a quick read, and I found myself wanting more when I reached the end of the book. While some of the things mentioned in this book would be considered “general knowledge” to anyone that has ever read an article about weight loss it is also chock full of facts that I hadn’t heard before. Did you know there was a study to determine what color yellow people preferred their bananas to be? I didn’t.

Dirty Deeds by Stella Rhys (Irresistible #3)

Dirty Deeds (Irresistible Book 3) by [Rhys, Stella]4 Stars

I don’t generally like to jump into a series mid-series, but Dirty Deeds made it absolutely painless. Stella Rhys is a new to me author, but once I read the blurb for this one I couldn’t pass it up.

Dirty Deeds is definitely in the category of romantic comedy and I found myself smiling through many scenes. Even with the comedic value though, this couple has a difficult past to work through. Aly in particular is dealing with an issue that I haven’t seen touched on in a book before. Emmett is also surprisingly deep compared to how Aly thinks of him and working through the issues of their past brought them together. Long story short, this book is funny & HOT & just an all around good time.

This is a standalone within a series, and I never felt like I was missing out on something.

ALY
It’s been twelve years since I’ve seen him, but loathing Emmett Hoult
still runs in my blood. Thanks to the hell he wreaked on my teenaged life, I’ve
avoided the prick like the plague. But desperate times call for desperate
measures, and after a fire destroys my apartment during the most important week
of my life, I’m suddenly as desperate as they come.
Hence the roommate situation.
It’s his summer home. His family said he wouldn’t be around. They said
I’d never run into him.

But oh, did I run into Emmett Hoult.
And in the worst way possible.
EMMETT
I didn’t expect to see her ever again, let alone the way I
did.
But now that she’s back in my life, I’m not screwing things
up. She still hates me – I know that – but it won’t stop me from chasing
the only two goals I’ve made for this summer:
Making things right.
And making her mine.

Author Bio

Stella Rhys is an author of contemporary romance and can’t
help but write it hot, steamy and borderline filthy (just kidding, it’s just
flat-out filthy). Writing aside, she lives for coffee, the Knicks, the Yankees
and cooking recipes way out of her league. She was born and raised in New York
and now lives there with her husband and charmingly entitled fur babies.

Ask an Astronaut: My Guide to Life in Space by Tim Peake

Ask an Astronaut: My Guide to Life in Space by [Peake, Tim]4 Stars

Honestly speaking, I had no idea who Tim Peake was prior to reading Ask an Astronaut. I’m now a fan. This book was written really clearly and felt like I was just sitting there having a conversation with him. The questions are done in a chronological type of way starting with liftoff in the beginning through the ride home at the end.

I learned so much that I never even thought to ask. The information contained in this book is thorough and often entertaining. I had no idea that astronauts are required to know Russian. It makes sense, but wasn’t something I had ever thought of before. This book would be a great addition to anyone’s library. Reading this expanded my knowledge and made me want to pick more books up about astronauts. Completely fascinating.

Cowboy Up by Harper Sloan (Coming Home #3)

Cowboy Up (The Coming Home Series Book 3) by [Sloan, Harper] 4 Stars

I’m so happy after reading this one. Cowboy Up redeemed this series for me after almost DNFing the last one. Clayton is the strong silent type and he’s the one I loved the most. He’s been a strong support for his siblings over the years. He’s an alpha with a bit of a darker side, but the way he takes care of Caroline is everything.

This book was a bit different from the other two because it had a bit of a mystery thrown in that really amped up the action. I think this added so much to the story that I hadn’t expected.

Then there was that epilogue…I LOVED it! Epilogues are very popular in this genre but it isn’t often that we get an epilogue from 15 years later. It made the Davis family story feel completely wrapped up in a way that was comforting.

Lexi Ryan Cover Reveal!!!

I absolutely love Lexi Ryan and have been craving reading a new book from her.

This is the blurb for The Wrong Kind of Love coming in February.

From New York Times bestseller Lexi Ryan comes a sexy new romance novel about a runaway bride, a single dad who’s sworn off love, and the kind of family secrets that can threaten to break even the deepest bonds.

You never forget your wedding day. Or the moment your twin sister pukes on your bouquet and confesses she’s pregnant . . . with your fiancé’s baby.

I wanted to get away, to hide until my heart mended. I found myself in a strange town with a mysterious stranger whose talented mouth and hands almost made me forget it was supposed to be my wedding night.

Afraid to go home to face my broken life, I pretend to be my twin so I can take her job in Jackson Harbor caring for a six-year-old girl. Imagine my surprise when I find out my new boss is my mysterious stranger—Dr. Ethan Jackson.

I never meant for Ethan to discover my secrets. I never meant for them to matter. But the longer I work with him and his sweet daughter, the harder I fall, and the clearer it becomes that I’m not the only one carrying a secret that could tear us apart.

Get ready to fall for the boys of Jackson Harbor in Lexi Ryan’s sexy new contemporary romance series. These books can all be read as standalones, but you’ll enjoy reading them as a series!

The Wrong Kind of Love will be releasing February 12, 2018.

Kiss Kiss Bang by Sidney Halston (Iron Clad Security #3)

Kiss Kiss Bang: An Iron Clad Security Novel (Iron-clad Security) by [Halston, Sidney]4 Stars

One thing I love is when a series of books is truly standalone and I can just jump in anywhere and not feel lost. Iron Clad Security is a great example of that, because I had never read a Sidney Halston book prior to Kiss Kiss Bang but I  was able to read this with no sense of loss. Even better is that I actually want to go back and read the other books that are earlier in the series.

The chemistry in this book was real and I LOVE good chemistry. Joey was such a great character and had pretty much every trait I love in a hero. My favorite moments were those where he was interacting with Livie’s daughter Sophie. His immediate love for her was swoonworthy. I had a harder time connecting with Livie. I’m not sure why but it wasn’t enough to detract from the book. I look forward to reading more from Sidney Halston.
