Emma in the Night by Wendy Walker

4.5 Stars

Emma in the Night by Wendy Walker is outside my usual genres, but I needed a change of pace and this completely delivered. It was so twisty turny that I was kept guessing until the big reveal. I literally thought every single person in the family could have had something to do with the disappearances.

This book has a slower pace that made it easy to step away from, but I kept coming back because I needed to know what had happened. The narcissistic parent angle was really interesting and you were subtlely yet effectively reminded of the narcissism every time Cass referred to her mother as “Mrs. Martin.” I will admit, that at one point I was so desperate to find out the truth that I snuck a peek at the last page. It didn’t help. In fact, it further fueled some of my wild theories that were debunked once I actually finished the book.

Emma in the Night was a really good fit for me and made me wonder what else I’m missing out on when I skip the thriller section at the bookstore. I think I’ll be taking a closer look next time.
