Tied by Carian Cole (Devils Wolves #2)

5 Stars

Tied by Carian Cole is the second book in her Devils Wolves series. This is a series of standalones with interconnecting characters. The characters from the last book were mentioned, but didn’t really play a big role so you don’t feel like you are missing something if you didn’t read the first book. But you should totally read the first book too. Really.

As for TiedI read this in one sitting. I picked it up just intending to start it before bed and then before I knew it, it was 4AM and I was putting my Kindle down with a satisfied smile on my face. This story is unique and I completely loved it. Both characters are coming from a dark place. They are scarred both mentally and physically from the traumas of their pasts. They come together and there is healing.

I’ve only read 3 of Carian Cole’s books, but I’ve discovered I’m a really big fan. All 3 books have received a 5 Star rating from me. So now, I’m slowly catching up on her earlier works. It’s taking me awhile, but I’ll eventually get there.

My childhood was stolen by a monster. I’ve forgotten what love feels like. What happiness feels like. What hope feels like. I am numb.

Him
He’s possibly as damaged as I am. Maybe even more. Scarred just as much on the inside as the outside. Just like me. He doesn’t speak. He doesn’t smile. He hides in the woods like an animal. I should be scared of him. But I’m not. He’s the only one that has ever made me feel. And I want to make him feel, too. everything…

About the Author:

I have a passion for the bad boys, those covered in tattoos, sexy smirks, ripped jeans, fast cars, motorcycles and of course, the sweet girls that try to tame them and win their hearts.

My first novel in the best-selling Ashes & Embers series, Storm, published in September of 2014. I have many books and sequels slated for this series. My new spin-off series, Devils Wolves, launched in 2016 with the best-selling novel, Torn. There are several books planned for this series as well.

Born and raised a Jersey girl, I now reside in beautiful New Hampshire with my husband and our multitude of furry pets and spend most of my time writing, reading, and vacuuming.

How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days by Kerrelyn Sparks (The Embraced #1)

4 Stars

It has been way too long since I last read a paranormal romance, and it felt good to be back. How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days is the first book in Kerrelyn Sparks new The Embraced series. I haven’t read any of her books before, but enough of my friends have raved about her work that I was pretty sure she would be a hit for me.

This book was a perfect start to a new series. The world building was detailed and unique without getting bogged down with unnecessary information. It was funny, charming, and still had some heat. It did feel a little long, but it was a quick read because it was so engaging. The next book in the series will be So I Married a Sorcerer coming out at the end of August.

The Silent Corner by Dean Koontz (Jane Hawk #1)

4 Stars

My first Dean Koontz was a success! I’ve always been curious about his writing, but believed he would be too scary. I’m not a horror reader, and I have no desire to be. But I couldn’t help but want to see why he was such a popular author. I ran across The Silent Corner on NetGalley and the blurb sounded interesting without being too scary.

It was good!

The book itself was much longer than I expected, but I was thoroughly entertained. The mystery within is creepy without being scary and Jane Hawk is pretty much my hero. I did find it a bit too descriptive for my taste in a few places but I still had a hard time putting it down. I will be definitely be picking up The Whispering Room when it comes out in January.

Balance by Lucia Franco (Off Balance #1)

 5 Stars!

Balance by Lucia Franco is the first book in the Off Balance trilogy. I picked it up on Kindle Unlimited after seeing someone rave about it on Instagram. She was completely right about it. This book is intense, sexy, and TABOO. The next book, Execution, doesn’t even have a release date yet but I am in line for it.

There are some definite warnings that need to go with this book. You have to be able to deal with:

  • Forbidden Romance – Adrianna is a 15 year old gymnast, and Kova is her 32 year old coach.
  • An Affair – Kova is cheating on his girlfriend of 5 years with Adrianna.
  • Kova is a dick — ok, so that one isn’t really a TABOO thing, but he IS a dick.

Balance is currently on sale for $.99 or FREE with Kindle Unlimited.

Shark Lady: The True Story of How Eugenie Clark Became the Ocean’s Most Fearless Scientist by Jess Keating

 5 Stars

I don’t usually review picture books, but I knew Shark Lady was the perfect book for my family. My oldest son is 7 and mostly reads nonfiction with a heavy emphasis on sharks. His goal is to write a book about sharks and asked for a typewriter last Christmas so that he could start writing his book.

This book is everything we were looking for. Eugenie Clark lived such an inspirational life. What she achieved as a female scientist is incredible considering the mindset regarding women in the workplace at the time. My son appreciated this book more for the “shark scientist” angle and the fact that she lived the life he dreams of. I loved this book for the female empowerment. Eugenie Clark knew what she wanted from life and she didn’t let the restrictions of society restrict what she wanted to achieve. Shark Lady gave me a glimpse of a woman that I can’t wait to know more about. This book is a real gem and I’m glad we found it. We ordered a copy for our bookshelf and can’t wait to see it in its final form.

Tank by Laramie Briscoe (Moonshine Task Force #2)

 3.5 Stars

I really wanted to be blown away by this second installment of the Moonshine Task Force. The relationship between Blaze and Tank was teased throughout Renegade, and I was SO EXCITED for it. Blaze especially, sounded like my kind of girl. It didn’t quite live up to my expectations, but I was engaged enough that I still want to find out what happens in the “Strather” storyline.

I’m not a huge fan of angst, and part of why I like Laramie Briscoe is that her books aren’t about that. You don’t feel like something was added to the story just to cause problems. The relationships feel like they progress naturally, and without stupidity.

The next book, Havoc, has also been teased since Renegade. The dynamic of Havoc & Leighton sounds adorable, and I’m excited to see how their romance plays out. I’m sure we’ll get a lot more detail on the “Strather” storyline, and I’m ready to find out more about that.

Title: Tank
Series: Moonshine Task Force #2
Author: Laramie Briscoe
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: June 2, 2017
Blurb
Life isn’t promised, love isn’t easy, and relationships
aren’t always clean, but everyone has their soulmate who is willing to forgive
when it would be better to forget.
Trevor “Tank”
Trumbolt
I never thought in the blink of an eye my life could change,
but it did. Cresting a hill driving to my favorite fishing spot, I was hit
head-on by a teenager with no regard for anyone’s life but his own.
The recovery process has been hard, painful, and damn near
beating me down.

The bright spot? Blaze.
Surviving the wreck has given me a second chance to make a
life with her. Not knowing if I’ll ever be able to rejoin the Moonshine Task
Force again has brought my world into focus. It’s made me realize what’s
important.
Blaze. Stella. My brothers. My sister.
The ego that ran Blaze away before isn’t here any longer.
What’s left is a man who’s holding his heart in his hands and a burning hope
that once I’m healed she’ll still be around.
Daphne “Blaze”
Coleman
There’s only been one person in the world who’s accepted me
for who I am – from the fiery red of my hair and vibrant tattoos covering parts
of my body to the smartness of my mouth and my desire to be matched in the
bedroom.
That man is Trevor Trumbolt. When he asked me to give up my
job as an EMT because he saw the dangers I face one scary afternoon, it spelled
the end for us.
Now that he’s been injured, he needs my help and my love.
I’ll give it all freely, but in the end I’m gonna need him to understand one
thing about relationships. The give and take, love and sadness, pleasure and
pain is a two-way street. He’s either in this with me or he’s not, but at the
end of the day, I won’t let him boss me around.
If there’s anything that can handle the steel of a tank –
it’s the heat of a blaze.
