How to Keep a Boy from Kissing You by Tara Eglington

4 Stars

How to Keep a Boy from Kissing You was a nice change of pace for me. It was an adorable, light YA romance that just made me feel giddy inside. Tara Eglington has written a book that is definitely YA, starring high school students and only going so far as a kiss. Nothing more. It is full of teenage romance, hijinks, and fun. There is a bit of family drama with an absentee mom and father that is going through a midlife crisis but for the most part light and funny.

I found Aurora a bit difficult to connect with at the beginning. She’s on the “popular side” of high school and has a large group of gorgeous friends. So for those of you, like me, that just tried to “get through” high school and not “rule” high school it will probably take a minute to connect with her and her friends. It did get easier, though, as the book continued and by the end I was thoroughly enjoying myself.

“Are you sure you don’t want my help on you love project?” Hayden’s voice came from just near my ear. I could feel his hands on my hat brim, trying to shift it from its current position of trying to eat my face.

Strangely, the drama room was silent, except for his voice. Why hadn’t our entrance been met with a chorus of laughs, or a yell of anger from Mr. Peterman about our immaturity?

I didn’t know this book was part of a series until I was looking up the author after finishing it. How to Convince a Boy to Kiss You is the second book in the series and looks pretty promising.

Nolan: Did you handle the situation?Julian: I’m on it. Soon.

Nolan: Remember what happened to your sister. They breed like rats. Let me take care of it.

Julian: No. I will take care of it. In the meantime, she’s mine to deal with.

Nolan: You’re playing with fire.

The text exchange haunted me as I tried to distract myself with this gorgeous woman.

Julian: Soon.

“I like this,” Lia’s voice was soft against my shoulder as we swayed to the music. The smoky ambience provided the perfect atmosphere, and at this late hour, I was ravenous. I tried to channel that hunger into a different direction as I asked about her hobbies and talents. All my questions were asked with a purpose- to determine whether she was a true threat or just a starry-eyed human who fell victim to my charms.“I’m enjoying this as well,” I whispered against her neck, dipping her back so I could enjoy the sight of the ticking pulse in her neck. I breathed along her skin, and relished in the prickles of heat that flooded her neck and chest.

She let out a deep breath and curled her slender fingers in my hair- an action that surprised me.

As we discussed her college years and her hobbies, she told me she played T-ball and took dance classes as a child, and ultimately wanted to become a clinical counselor. I was relieved to conclude that she wasn’t a true Cormac threat, despite her bloodline. Her brother, on the other hand, I wasn’t sure about. The intense magnetic pull I felt toward her became stronger as the hours passed. The connection to her was both transfixing, yet haunting. Because I knew what I was going to have to do. Eventually.

The vow would see it through.

#1 Lost in Me

Lost in Me is the first book in the USA Today bestselling Here and Now trilogy. This sexy amnesia love triangle is intended for mature readers.

The last thing I remember is having drinks at Brady’s and trying to avoid eye-contact with my life-long crush—the gorgeous, unattainable Maximilian Hallowell. They tell me that was a year ago, but I have no memories of anything since then. What I do have is this ring on my finger that Max says he gave me, and this much-thinner body I’ve dreamed of most of my life. Aside from a case of retrograde amnesia, everything seems almost…perfect.

But the deeper I immerse myself into this new world of mine—planning a wedding to a man I don’t remember dating, attempting to run a business I don’t remember starting—the clearer it becomes that nothing is as it seems. Do I have the life I’ve always wanted or is it a facade propped up by secrets I don’t even know I have?

I need answers before I marry Max, and the only person who seems to have them is the angry, tatted, sexy-as-sin rocker Nate Crane. And Nate wants me for himself.

Lost in Me is not a standalone novel, as the story continues in Here and Now book two, FALL TO YOU.

#2 Fall to You

Torn between two men…

When I woke up after the accident, I couldn’t remember anything from the last year—including my relationship with Max Hallowell or anything about Nate Crane. Now my memories are returning, but instead of answering my questions, they’re leaving me with more.

The man who broke my heart and wants to be my future…

Max is all I ever wanted, and now he wants to marry me. He’ll do everything he can to fill my life with love, family, and security. I need those things now more than ever. But can I trust him?

The man who stole my heart and wants to let me go…
Nate never made me promises, and I never asked him to. I’d been on the rebound, looking for a distraction, and he made me feel beautiful and wanted when I needed to feel those things most. He says he has to let me go, but what if I can’t let go of him?

With every revelation and every passing day, I feel more like Alice down the rabbit hole. I’m falling. Who will catch me?

Fall to You is the second book in the Here and Now series. It is not a stand-alone and is intended to be read following Lost in Me. Hanna’s story concludes in book three, All for This.

#3 All For This

**ALL FOR THIS is the third book in the Here and Now trilogy. It is not a stand-alone and it’s intended to be read after LOST IN ME and FALL TO YOU.**

What if you would never remember the day you made the most important decision of your life?

That’s what they’re telling me about the day of my accident—the day I put on Max’s ring and chose him over Nate. I’m counting on the wisdom behind a decision I don’t remember making.

Max is amazing—sexy, sweet, and kind. I was starting to believe happily-ever-after might be in my future after all. Then the unthinkable happened and my world imploded. If I’m going to make this work with Max, I need my missing memories, or at least answers from about those five days before my accident.

But what does my future hold if those answers aren’t anything like I imagined?

A Sacred Vow by Willa Thorne

 3 Stars
A lusty vampire romance? Count me in! Then I got started and my excitement faded a bit. I’ve wrestled with this book as I’ve read it. I’m new to Willa Thorne’s work, and I’ve noticed I tend to like authors more as I get used to their style. At first, I had a really hard time with the dialogue, and that it just honestly felt like a Twilight ripoff. I can’t even pinpoint what gave me that feeling. The complete instalove maybe? (Which doesn’t usually bother me.) Getting into trouble in a seedy part of town? Or that he called her his “little doe”. None of those really stand out as a reason to feel that way. So maybe it was just me.
Regardless of my initial feelings, as I fell into the depths of the story, I started to enjoy it much more. The ending was wrapped up enough that I felt satisfied with it, but there is definitely more story to be told. I think hearing more about her brother will definitely be interesting.
I received an advanced readers copy of this book that I have chosen to review.

Behind Closed Doors by Lisa Renee Jones Release Day!

Today is release day for Behind Closed Doors by Lisa Renee Jones. Behind Closed Doors is a standalone within the Inside Out/Careless Whispers series. I haven’t read either of those series but had no problem reading this because it really is its own story. I desperately need to get started on them though, because Lisa Renee Jones has quickly become an auto-buy author for me. You can read my original review here.

Behind Closed Doors by Lisa Renee Jones (Careless Whispers #2.5)

4 Stars

Lisa Renee Jones is one of my favorite authors right now. She consistently delivers a hot romance with swoon-worthy characters that make me want to dive into the book and live there. Really. Jason is perfection and his attraction to Skye is sweet and sexy.

Behind Closed Doors is listed as being book #2.5 in the Careless Whispers series, but I haven’t read that series yet and I had no problems following along. And I’m pretty sure I loved Jason just a little too much. BTW… in my head he looks NOTHING like the cover model.

My gaze collides with my crazy cowboy, and we have a silent communication. He is going to help me — that understanding comes a second before he turns and becomes my personal linebacker. In a blink, I’m at the front of the group, and Ella’s nowhere to be seen.

See! They haven’t even met yet, and he’s already amazing! I wasn’t sure about reading a book where a poker player is a main character ( I know nothing about poker) but it was actually interesting. My only complaint would be that the mystery wrapped up too quickly at the end. It just felt kinda weak. BUT Jason and Skye’s relationship was the real reason I read this book, and that did not disappoint.
