Gilt Hollow by Lorie Langdon is an atmospheric, romantic mystery that will leave you well satisfied. I’ve been trying to branch out into other genres and this was PERFECT for that. The atmosphere was absorbing, and even though it’s still 90+ degrees here I cranked the A/C down low and curled up in my bed with a hot chocolate and just read. I loved little scenes like this, that allowed you to vividly imagine exactly what was going on.
“But he wouldn’t spend another night out in the cold either. Shuffling through the crisp carpet of fallen leaves he found a relatively comfortable trunk to lean against, pulled a sandwich out of his bag, and settled in to wait. If he knew the Lamotts, they’d be snug in their beds by ten o’clock, and then he’d make his move.”
Unlike the majority of stuff I read, I would have no problem letting my kids read this. The romance is perfectly clean and age appropriate. There is drinking mentioned in the story, but only by other kids and it’s mostly in passing. I completely enjoyed this story and I look forward to seeing what else Lorie Langdon comes up with. This was her first solo book, but I’m going to look into the Doon series she coauthored with Carey Corp. It has great reviews, so I’m pretty excited.
And one last thing, I think you need to take a minute to admire this cover, because GORGEOUS!
Gilt Hollow is releasing September 27, 2016.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
